HIKING ITINERARIES
ACCESS TO THE REFUGE :
- Plateau d'Assy : difference in altitude 620m - 1h15 to 1h45 - easy path.
- Bay / Le Coudray : difference in altitude 520m - 1h15 to 1h45 - easy path (Mountain Bike / 4x4).
- Plaine Joux (via Charbonniere) : 2h - easy path.
- Plateau d'Assy : via-ferrata difficulty AD 2h, actually under construction will be ready for summer 2007.
HIKES : All the itineraries below requires good hiking boots.
- Tour de Frioland : difference in altitude 250m - 2h - at large easy path.
- Col de Barmerousse : altitude 2373m ; difference in altitude 752m - 2h - few difficult path on marked trail.
- Aiguille de Barmerousse : altitude 2210m ; difference in altitude 800m - 2h30 via the "col de Barmerousse" - few difficult path.
- Aiguille de Varan : altitude 2544m ; difference in altitude 924m - 3h via the "col de Barmerousse" - quite difficult path, 2 shaft to climb under the summit (pas de II).
Good hiking shoes and ropes required, pitons in place.
- Aiguille Rouge : altitude 2637m ; difference in altitude 1017m - 3h20 via the "col de Barmerousse" - quite difficult path, passage de 50m exposé d'escalade du II° degré.

- Le Sautet : altitude 2622m ; difference in altitude 1002m - 3h20 via the "col de Barmerousse" - quite difficult path, path not marked outside trails after the gap.
- Désert et refuge de Platé : 3h15 via the "col de Barmerousse" or the "Chalets de Charbonnière" - quite difficult path requiring good hiking shoes.
On loop via the col de Barmerousse", Platé, Chrabonnière, back to Varan 4h30.
- Refuge de Moede-Anterne : 4h30 Next step of the TPMB (Tour du Pays du Mont-Blanc).
- Refuge de Veran : 2h30 easy path.
- Traversée des arrêtes Aiguille de Varan / Tête du Coloney : Alpine hike going thruth the summit of the "aiguille de Varan", the "aiguille Rouge", the Sautet, the Coloney et the Lindras, way back via the refuge de Platé.
This alpine hike include several climbing passage of II° degree (climbing equipement required).
- Tour des Fiz : From refuge to refuge, Chatelêt, Moede-Anterne, Alfred Wills, les Fonts, Grenaison, Sales, Platé, Varan. Few difficult path to adapt for 3 to 6 days with 3 to 6 hours of walking every day.
The mentionned duration are in effective walking time, not counting pause time, for average walkers.
